THE STATE ACADEMIC CAPELLE OF ST.PETERSBURG


The State Sankt-Petersburg Choir Capella was founded by decree of Peter the Great in 1703 (in the same year as Sankt-Petersburg itself - the first singers of Capella sang during the building of the foundation of the city). The Concert Hall of Capella is the famous historical place now (200 m from the Alexandre Column - The Center or «The Heart» of the Sankt-Petersburg); it was built following the project by Benoist, and now it is the part of the famous architectural ensemble of the central Palace Square of Sankt-Petersburg, as well as the Winter Palace (Rasstrelli), the Headquarters (Rossi). It is not only a masterpiece of architecture but the Hall with the unique acoustic: the concert Hall of the Capella is recognised as one of the 5 best Concert Halls in the World thanks to its acoustical quality.
